Glutathione (GSH) is your body’s primary detoxification system.  It converts oil soluble toxins that are embedded in your tissues to water soluble so that they can be eliminated from the body.  An EPA study found that the average American has 700 different industrial chemicals in their body.  In another study, there were significant levels of industrial chemicals in every one of 2500 people tested.

The body adjusts to toxins not dissimilar to drug addictions.  By increasing your levels of glutathione, people may experience symptoms that are directly related to the process of toxin extraction.

The typical reaction to the detoxification may involve the same symptoms as caffeine withdrawal. They include but are not limited to headaches, fatigue, brain fog, and lethargy. In more severe reactions they may be flu-like that include a sore throat, a feverish feeling, and joint or muscle discomfort. Smokers tend to experience more severe reactions. Hives, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath are allergic reactions and supplementation should be ceased immediately.

These detox symptoms are a sign that your body is being detoxified which is a good thing but the supplementation should be reduced or stopped until the symptoms disappear.

Water is the primary vehicle used by the body to expel toxins.  It is recommended that ½ oz of water per pound of body weight be consumed daily.
